Jackson Hole country - Wyoming - July 1960 : Just after July 4th Arthur Ogle, Ellen Ogle, Cary Ogle along with Jamie Shafer and Frank Shafer II went to Anchor Ranch in Wilson, Wyoming where Arthur, Ellen and Cary had stayed for a few days on their western trip in August 1955. The stay at the ranch was for 3 plus weeks, or almost the whole month of July. At the ranch we all rode every morning, and Arthur fished in either the Fish Creek that ran down the valley where the ranch was located or in other creeks and rivers. Some days other trips were made, as the trip to Granite Canyon, where 10 miles up the canyon hot water gushed from a cleft in the rock, to be trapped in a warm water pool before it spilled over to form the valley creek. The ladies and Frank swam in this natural hot pool, and Arthur fished with other ranch guests. Other days trips were made by car into the lower ranges of the Tetons or to Jackson Hole, and one day Jamie Shafer went with the ranch cook and another guest to Yosemite, where a greedy bear almost stole the lunch. The flowers there in Wyoming, both in the valley and up in the mountains were very beautiful, and when we arrived the spring flowers were just fading, and when we left the fall flowers had started to bloom. Such is the short summer season in that place, with the first snowfall by September 15.

Arthur Ogle took most all these photos, while Cary Ogle took some, particularly those of Frank. Arthur had a very fine Leica – probably one of the best 35mm cameras made at that time, brought back from Switzerland in 1955.

Malta 1998 - visit by ship : One day on the island of Malta: the morning was spent in Valetta, the capital city and the afternoon in Mdina, an ancient walled city dating to the days when the Moslems held sway on the island. These images were all (except for the postcard views) from scanned 35mm negatives using a Minolta Dimage Scan Elite F-2900 and were then post processed in Photoshop. The camera used was a Pentax ZX-5N. Almost all photos inside St. John's Co-Cathdral are scanned from postcards as the interior was extremely dark. The Caravaggio painting is my own photo, extensively improved in Photoshop.

New York City and the Metropolitan Museum of Art : These are the best of the photos I took on one visit to the Metropolitan Museum in the fall of 2004. All photos were taken with a hand-held camera (c-8080 WZ) and only available light was used - flash not permitted. Post-processing took place - sometimes a good deal of it, but many of the photos astonished me with their clarity and detail.

St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park and Rookery on Anastasia Island near St. Augustine : THe nesting season was just commencing on March 20 when these photos were taken. Not yet present are the Roseate Spoonbills. The birds seen here are: the Great White Egrets with yellow bills just touched with green during the mating season and black legs and feet; the Snowy Egrets with black beaks touched with orange and black legs with orange feet; the Wood Storks with dark heads, curving bills and legs, and black edged wings; also seen once or twice are a single White Ibis and a grey colored heron. The Wood Storks nest at the top of trees especially the largest Live Oaks, sharing the territory with the Great White Egrets, while the Snowy Egrets make their nests on lower branches. On March 20 a few birds were still seeking mates or copulating, while may more were building nests, with the males bringing sticks to the females who frequently dropped rejected sticks in the water. There were also many birds preening their feathers - a very graceful manouver - and even more hunkered down on their nests. In a month the babies will hatch - naked but with colorful naked skin at first.
The alligators are just a few of the 20-some different species of alligators and crocodiles. There are a few photos of the many New Guinea art pieces on display both outside and in a museum building. If you are in northern Florida in the spring, don't miss this amazing birding opportunity.
