Jamie Shafer (jamieos) > Secret garden looking northwest again - the red rose against the fence is now a mystery, but may be Ville de Bruxelles.
Jamie Shafer (jamieos) > Daniel Durrell Sayre, born 29 Dec. 1831; died 11 Oct. 1900, was a son of Benjamin Sayre, born 8 Nov. 1791 in Southampton, L.I., N.Y.; died 14 July 1858 in Montrose, Pa. and Priscilla Chapman, born 28 May 1793 in Saybrook, Ct.; died 18 May 1875 in Montrose, Pa.
Daniel was a younger brother of Catharine Cochran Sayre (see next photo).
Jamie Shafer (jamieos) > Catharine Cochran Sayre full length. This photo and the one of her husband, George Vaughn Bentley, are called "cartes de visite", being not much bigger than calling cards. They were the earliest portrait photgraphs made, beginning in the early 1860s, and were gradually phased out as the "Cabinet card" (4 x 6 inches) became popular in the 1870s.
